- A brand new website
- A Linux version of Kutano (on Firefox)
- We disabled anonymous posting
I don’t know if you noticed but there is a strong resemblance between the website’s new star, “Joe Kutano” and the statues of Easter Island, called “moai”. Maybe we should just start calling him “Moai”?
Included with the website updates, we have also updated the Latest Active Discussions page. Latest Active Discussions is a page that shows you the last twenty Discussions that were updated. This page can be very useful to see what is going on in Kutano, right now – for your convenience, you may want to think about bookmarking this page. I use it regularly as a quick way to see which new Discussions I want to read and participate in.
Most people are familiar with using the Kutano add-on to read and author Discussions in Kutano. But you may or not be aware that every Discussion in Kutano is also published on a web page -- take a quick look at an example here. One thing to note is that Kutano web pages are not as fully featured as the Kutano add-on (no Twitter features, you cannot create new Discussions, etc.) but it does allow you to read and reply to existing Discussions from any browser. You can also use the Kutano web pages from your Blackberry or iPhone which can come in quite handy when you are on the go...
The Kutano web pages are especially cool if you are viewing a Discussion about a YouTube video. Take a look at my favourite YouTube video right here. I love this feature because I can just watch the YouTube video as I read the Kutano Discussion!
This release also brings a version of the Kutano add-on for Linux -- I can hear the penguins applauding as I type this! We have confirmed that Kutano runs on Ubuntu v8/9 as well as Fedora v10. But we just can’t test all flavours of Linux so if you are wondering about your flavour, please give it a try and let MichaelW know what you find. With this version, Kutano now runs on all the major operating systems – Mac, Linux & Windows.
Finally, we disabled anonymous posting. You may be asking us why? We received some feedback (which we tended to agreed with) that users wanted to see an identity for each post. They could use this identity to understand who is behind each post which then attaches more credibility and believability to each post. Makes sense to us so we made it so.
As always, we’d love to hear what you are thinking about Kutano. Features, complaints, praise (we especially love this one!), anything. Just go to our feedback page and let us know.
Kevin
